Quick review of symmetry  Pages 208-09

Different type of symmetry demonstrated in a colorful cartoon
Created for kids, this fast-moving cartoon and song get the point across with a real beat! Originally about 3.5 minutes, I trimmed this to 2 minutes of viewing here. In painting we're concerned about bilateral symmetry, but this video introduces two other types: "rotational" symmetry (which is really just a special case of bilateral symmetry) and "slide symmetry" which is irrelevant to still art. See what you think! This may help you with the first part of Project 4!

An example to think about
Here is the illustration from page 209 in The History of Visual Technology, 3rd edition. See if you can identify the instances of bilateral symmetry in this painting (it's The Amazement of the Gods by Hans von Aachen, about 1590). The discussion on page 208 will help you through this example!
